He was predeceased by: his parents, Sterlin W. Shorter and Ethel Foster Shorter; and his stepmother Sylvia Harris Shorter. He is survived by: his wife Louise F. Shorter; his children, Annette Walls (Bruce), Gwen Freeman (Ben) and Andrew Shorter (Kathy); his sister Fay Gillespie (Fred); his brother-in-law Lewis De-Jarnette (Jackie); and his grandchildren, Lauren Tunstall, Brynn Weimorts (Tyler), Justin Snider (Katy), Dalton Freeman (Sarah), Elizabeth Peeples (Jay) and Patricia Wooden (Derek). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
