He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Gibson and Betty Hopkins Harris; and his stepfather Bobby Harris. He is survived by: his wife Barbara "B. J."; his son Phillip Yates; his stepsons, Larry Brown, T. J. Brown and Kevin Brown; his brothers, Benjamin and Victor Gibson; and his mother-in-law Sally Sirry. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, other family members and friends.
