He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Craig Childress; his son James Childress III; his stepdaughter Charlene Mitchell; his siblings, Bernice Robinson, Lena Dent (Glenn), Nannie Childress, Theresa Childress, Harriet Childress and Harry Childress; his siblings-in-law, Deborah Craig, Crayton Craig, Jr. and Nathaniel Craig; and his sister Evelyn Macauley. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and many, many friends.
