Ann Overcash Brown Obituary
Ann Overcash Brown, of Vinton, Va., passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 24, 2017. She was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma on Saturday, April 1 , 2017. She spent the last month of her life surrounded by loved ones. She was able to enjoy watching her beloved Tarheels play in and win the championship, all the while giving everyone a hard time and sipping on her favorite Diet Coke.
Ann spent her days after retirement watching all her favorite sporting events on TV. Even if that meant staying awake until 4am to watch an overseas game of tennis. She tried to pass on her love of her alma mater, the University of North Carolina, to every family member. At one point or another, every grandchild and great-grandchild sported a UNC shirt bought by his/her Gagee.
A teacher of almost 30 years, Ann never let her retirement stop her from teaching those around her. Educating everyone on new recipes, health, horticulture, politics and sports, whether in person or via Facebook, gave her much enjoyment over the past several years. Although having graduated from the University of North Carolina as well as the University of Virginia, she would rarely admit to the latter.
A die hard UNC fan, she let her love of her home state of North Carolina show. Ann is preceded in death by her parents Roy A. Overcash and Helen Teeter Overcash of China Grove. Surviving are her daughter, Audra Bailey and husband Michael Bailey of Vinton, Va; sister, Mary Diss of Christiansburg, Va; niece, Lily Diss Westcott and husband Chris Wescott and their children Clara, James and Maria Wescott of Blacksburg, Va; nephew, John Diss of Christiansburg, Va.; and grandchildren, Jacob Bailey, Joshua Bailey and Ashlyn Fix and husband Jacob Fix.
Also surviving are her two great-grandchildren, Baylor and Selleck Fix; and numerous special cousins she was close to. More details about the celebration of life will be posted on her social media account. The family would like to thank everyone for their calls, letters, and kind words over the last several weeks. Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton, Va., is assisting the family.
