He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Yates and Rosie Deel Yates; his son Anthony Yates; his brothers, Roy Yates and Harold Yates; and his son-in-law Harley Mitchem.
He is survived by: his wife Wanda Dotson Yates; his children, Jackie Yates (Marlo) of Nebraska, Tammy Mitchem of Haysi, VA and Brenda Castro of Chesnee, SC; his sisters, Truby Dale of Prater, VA and Ruby Rowe (Jack) of North Carolina; his sister-in-law Janet Yates; his uncle Jimmy Deel; and his caregiver Tara. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, cousins.
