With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mary Merchant Stokes (Upperville, Virginia), born in Carlsbad, New Mexico, who passed away on April 18, 2023 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, William H. Merchant, Jr. and Mary Frances "Tantie" Merchant; her husband William S. "Tommy" Stokes; and her son William "Bill" S. Stokes. She is survived by: her family, Ayrshire and Virginia; her grandchildren, Will, Peter, Clara Leder and Tommy; her stepgrandchildren, Thomas and Forbes Dudley (Robert Vantrease); and her children, Stormy Stokes Dudley (Philip) of Upperville and Claiborne Merchant Stokes (Leder) of Mobile, AL.. She is also survived by her family and countless loyal friends.

In celebration of her life, please consider a memorial contribution to Blue Ridge Hospice http://www.brhospice.org, who helped care for Mary in her late life, or to Buchanan Hall http://www.buchananhall.org in Upperville, Virginia.
