It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mayes David Mathews of Toano, Virginia, who passed away on April 18, 2021, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Mathews and Sylvia Mathews; and his brother Nathan Mathews of Cameron. He is survived by: his wife Cheryl; his children, Martin B Mathews and Tara Mathews Best; his son-in-law Ervin Best II; his granddaughter Abigail Best; his nieces, Megan Noble and Susannah Mathews; his nephew Thomas Mathews Crozier; and his cousin Candace Ward.

In lieu of flowers or designation of a charity, the family asks to honor Mayes with a Pay It Forward request.
