He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Betty Mae Smith; and his sons, Teddy Updike of Richmond, Mark Updike (Sharon) of Broadway, Justin Updike of Timberville, Kevin Updike (Lisa) of Dayton and Curtis Updike of Harrisonburg.
