He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Abel and Mary Gladys Peery Abel; his former wife Ollie Mae Abel; his son James Andrew Abel; and his daughter-in-law Kathy Abel.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Smith Abel; his sons, Charles Hunter Abel (Deborah) of Abbs Valley, VA, David Eugene Abel of Rural Hall, NC and Richard Allen Abel of Bland, VA; his stepson Michael Carey Williams of Kremmling, CO; his daughters, Mary DeLillian King "Dee" (Charles, Jr.) of Belfast, VA and Anita Ann Abel of Winston-Salem, NC; his stepdaughter Bethany Wright (Ted Sparks) of North Tazewell, VA; his brother Junior Cook (Nancy Lynn) of Glade Spring, VA; and his stepsister Deanie McNelly of Glade Spring, VA..
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home (232 Ben Bolt Ave, Tazewell, VA 24651). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
