He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Snowden and Frances Simmerline Rhines; and his siblings, Robert Rhines, Cloy Rhines and Mary Rhines Kirkwood.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Dabney Hutchinson Rhines; his daughters, Anne Dabney (Steve Elder), Frances Snowden (Timothy Hudgins) and Virginia Henley Rhines; his grandchildren, Sarah Elder, John Elder, Mary Anne Elder, Anna Hudgins and Edwin Hudgins; and his sister Evelyn Parrett.
