He was predeceased by: his parents, E. F. Barker and Bessie Ferrell Barker; his wife Elaine Farmer Barker; his daughter Phyllis B. Gatewood; and his granddaughter Rachel Gatewood.
He is survived by: his daughter Sue B. Hair (Wayne) of Sutherlin, VA; his grandchildren, Crystal Lewis (James) and Thomas Gatewood (Casey); his great grandchildren, Shane Lewis, Brooke Lewis, Adam Gatewood and Chase Gatewood; and his close friend Mary Guill.
