He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Brown and Lillian Walker Brown; his stepfather Thomas Owens; his daughter Joan Brown; and his wife Virginia Mitchell.
He is survived by: his former wife Marian Dodson Brown; his children, Patricia of Sutherland, VA, Jean Griffin (Gilbert) and Charlie Brown, Jr. (Edna); his stepsons, Clarence, Anthony (Sheila), Keith, Juan and Gregory Mitchell; his grandchildren, Dr. Torrie Walker (Kevin), Gilbert Griffin, II (Kenya), Corey Griffin (Tonya), Jonathan Farmer and Joy Farmer; his great grandchildren, Markos Johnson, Kennedy Griffin, Lyndsea Walker, Gabrielle Griffin, Madison Griffin, Kevin Walker, Jr. and Jaxon Collins; his great great grandchild Elliyona Adams; his sister-in-law Frances Patterson; and his caregiver Joanie Fouts.
