He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Turpin Simpkins and Samuel Howard Smith; and his father-in-law Rudy Grissom. He is survived by: his wife Susan Grissom Smith; his siblings, Bobby Simpkins, Bessie, Sissy, Epperly, Chris Smith (Ruth), Penny Atkinson (Tim) and Kim Bowyer (Jerry); his close friends, Kenneth Richardson, Shirley Richardson, Wayne Hunter and Sherry Hunter; his stepsons, Chris Dooley (Kendra) and Travis Dooley; and his grandchildren, Avery and Kaelynn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
