He is survived by: his sons, Shernard C. Newby (Michelle) of Williamsburg and Mario C. Newby Jr. of Petersburg; his grandsons, Shernard II, Shermar and Sherdari Newby of Williamsburg; his brother Steve Newby of Waverly; his aunts, Phyllis Smith James and Harriet Ruffin; his uncle Warren W. Smith; and his sisters-in-law, Gloria Newby and Myrtle Jones. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
