He is survived by: his wife Anna Martin Carter; his children, Andrea Carter Best of Sana Monica, CA, Ursula Watkins of Axton, VA, Nakia O'Brian "Kiki" Carter (Nikki) of Martinsville, VA and Ricky Simon of Martinsville, VA; and his sister Gloria Cheathum of Martinsville, VA.
