He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Magdalen and Peter Joseph Mitchell; his sister Ruth Widmann; and his wife Margaret Oast Mitchell. He is survived by: his son Stephen Christopher Mitchell; and his stepchildren, Frederick Girvin Hale, Jr. (Billie), Cynthia Linscott Hale and Elizabeth Glenn Hale. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
