He is survived by: his mother Joan Fox Mathis; his daughter McKayla Owen; his pets, Jake, Toby, Cash and Charlotte; his brother Tiger; his wife Laura Ann Bovyn Mathis; his sons, Joshua Paul Mathis (McKayla) and Jeremy Brent Mathis; his granddaughter Clara Jean Mathis; his siblings, Danny Lee, Mark Henry Mathis, Dessie Mathis Putnam (Mark), Denise Mathis (Gary) and Sonya Mathis Yeomans (Russell); and his siblings-in-law, Cynthia Beck, Paula Mellon (Marty), Michael Bovyn (Kathy), Gregory Bovyn (Cheryl), Glen Bovyn (Cheri) and Timothy Bovyn (Marie). He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bennetts Creek Chapel (2690 Bridge Rd, Suffolk, VA 23435). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
