He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Dawson and Lillie Vaughn Dawson; his former wife Ruth Riddle Dawson; his wife Mary Lou Lawless Dawson; his son Phil Dawson; and his siblings, Earl Dawson, Ruth Morrison, Catherine Pilson, Margaret Bennett, Madeline Elgin and Doris Atkinson.
He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Arline Dawson; his grandsons, Kent Dawson and Ward Dawson; and his stepchildren, Nancy Slate, Dianna Adams, Ronnie Lawless, Donnie Lawless and Tim Lawless. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
