He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. James Curtis Akers, Sr. and Dorothy Merrill Wilkinson Akers. He is survived by: his wife Jane Hart Akers; his children, Merrill Akers Hopkins (John) of Stuart and James Curtis Akers, III of San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Aubrey Hopkins (Abby), Evan Hopkins (Sydney), Lainie Hopkins, Miller Hopkins, Andrew Akers and Audrey Akers; his siblings, Cornelia Akers Wood (Bob) of Mars Hill, NC, Mary Kathleen Akers Verticchio (Paul) of Spartanburg, SC and William "Bill" Hart (Diane) of Lawsonville, NC; and his nieces and nephews, Chris Wood (Kelly), Josh Wood, Meredith Lindsey (Wade) and Caroline Verticchio.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Services (202 W Blue Ridge St, Stuart, VA 24171). A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 at the Stuart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1079C Spruce Street, Martinsville, VA 24112, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
