He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Lee Mumaw, Sr. and Zella Naomi Miller Mumaw; and his sisters, Roxie M. Stickley and Elizabeth Mumaw. He is survived by: his wife Helen Windle Mumaw of Virginia; his children, Darlene "Cookie" Day (Randy) and Daryl "Beanie" Mumaw (Tina); his grandchildren, Amy Gray (Ray), Elizabeth Mumaw (Louis), Rebekah Mumaw (John), Caleb Mumaw, Amanda Garrenton (Dan), Chris Day (Stacey), Greg Smith (Brittney), Kristi Smith and Adam Bodkin; and his great grandchildren, Bristen, Ashton, Skylar, Kenzie, Trenton, Rose, Lily, Harper, Marissa and Eli. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Chester Gap Vol. Fire Department, Blue Ridge Hospice, the local SPCA or a charity of one's choice.
