Marcia D. Jefferson Shands Obituary

Marcia D. Jefferson Shands passed peacefully away from this life during the evening hours of February 9, 2018, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and dear friends during the last days of her life. Marcia was born August 10, 1953, to the late Johnny and Della Jefferson.

She was educated in the Sussex County Public Schools. On September 21, 1971, she married Martin A. Shands Sr. and together raised a daughter and a son in Stony Creek, Va. Marcia is survived by her husband, Martin; a daughter, Monica (Arthur) Haskins; a son, Martin Jr.; one brother, James Jefferson; three sisters, Rose (Joseph) Williams, Barbara (David) Wyche and Felecia Jefferson (Robin Bates); she is also survived by four grandchildren, Danielle Curley, Darian M. Curley, Myia Shands and Sadajah Carter; in-laws, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing for Mrs. Shands will be from noon-5 p.m. Thursday, February 15, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at Jones Peace Funeral Home, 13013 Park Avenue, Stony Creek, Va. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018, at St. John Baptist Church, 12364 St. John Church Road, Stony Creek, Va., Rev. Herbert Holly, Pastor.

Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
