He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Kirkpatrick; his children, Diane Hurst (Skip) of Upperville, Virginia and Vance Thompson (Wyndale) of Marshall, Virginia; his grandchildren, Jay Thompson of Marshall, Stephanie Hurst of Upperville and Kayla Hurst of Yorktown, Virginia; and his great grandchild Ella Royal of Upperville, Virginia..
