He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mercer Hitaffer and Ruth Elaine Hitaffer; and his sister Madeline Whitacre. He is survived by: his wife Carol Lee Chapin Hitaffer; and his siblings, William Mercer Hitaffer, Jr. of Winchester and Cheryl Hitaffer (David) of Florida.
