Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Thelma Thurston of Staunton, Virginia, born in Grundy, Virginia, who passed away at the age of 79, on December 6, 2023. She was predeceased by: her parents, Bascome Matney and Rosa Carter Matney; and her son Scott. She is survived by: her daughter Laura Thurston Matheny; her granddaughters, Alexandra Matheny Barlow, Lauren Thurston and Olivia Thurston; her great grandchild Emersyn Barlow; and her husband Howard. She is also survived by her daughter, granddaughters, great granddaughter, many dearly loved family members and treasured friends.

Her local mission work with the WMU supported efforts to donate to children's projects, the local pregnancy center, summer bible school, music programs and many meals prepared with love and purpose for those in the community.
