He is survived by: his wife Laura Simmons Carwell of Staunton; his son Dennis Carwell (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Stephanie Berry, Emily Carwell and Logan Truxell; and his sister Harriette Shuey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
