He was predeceased by: his father James Howard; and his siblings, Wanda Elaine Sams Kelley, Larry Sams and James "Buddy" Howard Sams, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Sheena Marie Sams, Shaun Adam Sams and Margo Lynae Sams; his sister Janice Sams Shannon; and his grandchildren, Gabby, Madison, Fallon, Brooklyn, Weston, Easton and Willow.
