He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Mae Holland Nelms; his spouse Melicent Joyathene "Joy" Layne Nelms; his children, Wayne Nelms (Judith) of Coupon, PA, Christopher Nelms (Yvonne) of Florence, SC, Shelly Nelms-Perez (Edward) of Warrenton and Jennifer Whitehead (Kerry) of Martinsburg; and his siblings, Jesse, Eugene Nelms, Marie Abbott, Flora Mae Peek, Howard, Orville, James Nelms and Julie Newell. He was also cherished by 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
