He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Waldo McIlwee, Jr. and Minnie Fishel McIlwee of Virginia; his daughter Rebecca Chiam; and his brother David W. McIlwee. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ellen McIlwee of Star Tannery, VA; his daughters, Michelle McIlwee of Star Tannery and Jennifer Teets of New Market, VA; his grandchildren, Autumn Staffa and Kimberly Robinson; and his sisters, Thelma Joan Vance (David) and Betty Jean Bradby (Marvin). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
