He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Harper and Ada Harper; his wife Ann Powell Harper; and his brother Joseph Harper. He is survived by: his sister Ruby Spence (Carlton) of Jacksonville, Florida; his stepson Keith Shifflett; his grandchildren, Dana Shifflett McCauley and Dylan Shifflett; and his great grandchildren, Madison and Marshall McCauley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
