He was predeceased by: his parents, Quay Yates and Laura Yates; his son Allen Yates; his daughter-in-law Michelle Yates; and his siblings, Royal, John, Clyde, Cordell Yates, Stella Breeding, Elsie Tarwater, Edith Honaker and Van Taylor.

He is survived by: his wife Thelma Yates; his children, George Yates (Pam), Randall Yates (Paula), Jeffrey Yates and Jody Marrs (Vickie); his siblings, Tivis Yates (Sue), Jean Francis and Joyce Taylor (Jerry); his daughter-in-law Melody Yates; and his daughter Michelle Raymond. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
