He was predeceased by: his wife Alice Jennings Layne; his parents, Leavie Roberts and William Ernest Layne, Sr.; and his siblings, Jack Layne, Cotton McFadden, Betty Thomas Gaines and Florence Lottie Johnson.
He is survived by: his son Robert Alan "Bobby" Layne (Christie Campbell) of Spout Spring; his sister Pauline McFadden; his sisters-in-law, Claudine Horne and Loretta Layne; his grandchildren, Brittany Layne and Brandon Layne; his great grandchild Ella Brynn Glass; and his close friend Margaret Hostetler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
