He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Albany Mayes and Hazel Henry Mayes. He is survived by: his wife Marie Scott Mayes; his children, Russell "Rusty" Mayes (Beth) of Spout Spring and Tracy Almond (Wyatt) of Appomattox; his grandchildren, Amanda Howard (Eddie), Austin Short (Christy), Chad Cantrell (Serena), Russell Aaron Mayes (Virginia), Toby Almond and Ashlee Almond; his great grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, Molly, Cameryn, Jordyn, Londyn, Ashlynn, Russell Josiah and Piercyn; his great great grandchild Ava; and his sisters, Jackie M. Harlow of West Virginia and Carole M. LaPrad of North Carolina. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
