He was predeceased by: his spouse Shirley Reynolds Smith; and his parents, John Andrew Smith and Sally Mabel Guill Smith. He is survived by: his children, Teresa S. Moss (Jerry) of Monroe, Nathan Smith (Cynthia) of Appomattox and Vanessa S. Phillips of Appomattox; his grandchildren, Tom Smith, Daniel Phillips (Ashley), Phillip Smith and Sarah Phillips (Cedrick Furline); his great grandchildren, Kayleigh "Katie" Croner and Walker Smith; his great-niece Kim; and his close friend Bertha Jones. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
