He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mullen and Virginia Sheffield. He is survived by: his wife Inez B. Mullen; his stepchildren, Ralph D. Brooks (Alena), Doyle F. Brooks (Denise), Diane L. Brooks, Donald E. Brooks (Wanda) and Mark D. Brooks (Francis); and his brother Kenneth W. "Kenny" Smith. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion, 8456 Brock Rd. Spotsylvania, VA 22553.
