He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Spears and Dorothy Spears; and his brother William "Frankie" (Gloria). He is survived by: his siblings, Benjamin "Teeny" (Laura), Timothy "Tim" (Cindy) and Pam Hume (Frank); his children, Rachelle Kopp (Jeff), Amy Lucas (Jeremy) and Richard Jr.; and his grandchildren, Hailey Kopp, Anthony Kopp, Elijah Lucas, Mason Kopp and Peyton Kopp.
