He was predeceased by: his parents, Mark Potter and Mary Jo Potter. He is survived by: his children, Richard Potter (Tamra), Cheryl Williams, David Potter, Kathleen Potter and Mary Jo Potter; his significant other Terry Walter; his grandchildren, Keara, Tabby, Summer and Sam; his siblings, Bruce Potter (Brenda), Margaret Hockett (Brian) and Penny Miller (John); and his niece Lisa. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fredericksburg SPCA or the National Autism Association.
