He is survived by: his wife Sharron Hurtt Hanzel Simpson; his children, Joy Simpson Toombs, Charles H. Simpson, Jr. (Andrea) and Ricky Lee Simpson (Bonnie); his grandchildren, Kelly Toombs Creed (Brian), Bradley Toombs (John Peregoy), Terah, Simpson Clowser (Tim), Charles E. Simpson, Jessica Simpson DeBruhl (Ben), Brittany and Simpson Chickos (Steven); his great grandchildren, Rebecca and Jonathan Creed; his grandchildren, Chatham Clowser, Onnika, Ezra DeBruhl and Krew Chickos; his daughters, Sigrid Hanzel Lewis (Keith), Heidi Hanzel and Van Voorhis (Chandler); his grandchildren, Emily, Sarah Lewis, Claiborne, Haley and Van Voorhis; and his pets, Golden Retriever, Bonnie Lassie, Labrador, Retrievers, Christy, Gabby, Claudette (Claudie) and Millie Pearl.
