He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Stansbury Pates, Sr. and Louise Pates; and his wife Sandra "Sandy" Pates. He is survived by: his sons, Carl "Trey" Pates, III (JoEll), Michael Pates (Lynn) and Jeff Pates (Lisa); his grandchildren, Trent Pates (Alissa), Brendt, Jordan, Riley, Michael, Jarred, Jeffrey and Sarah; his great grandchildren, Carter, Luke and Lincoln; and his siblings, Pat Ramachandran, Richard Pates and Carolyn Mathur.
