She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Dale and Hazel Webb Akers; her stepfather Leroy "Buck" Spangler (JP Stevens); and her husband Robert E. "Bob" Owens. She is survived by: her daughter-in-law Joni; her friends, Dwight, Brenda, Nettie, Nancy and Tommy; her children, Robert "Frosty" Dales Owens (Joni) of Halifax and Robin Owens Hall (Jay) of South Boston; her grandchildren, Caitlin Owens Thompson (Charles) of Greensboro, NC, Robert "Bobby" Alan Owens of Halifax and Michael "Mike" Joseph Owens (Melissa) of Wake Forest, NC; her great grandchildren, Cole and Eli; her son Alan Parham; and her pet Taz.
During the COVID lockdowns, Joan enjoyed the daily window visits from her family as well as from the array of beloved birds and squirrels that frequented her feeders.
