It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Dix Oakes of South Boston, Virginia, born in Danville, Virginia, who passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Woodrow Wilson and Eula Willis; her son James M. Oakes, Jr.; and her siblings, Bill, Roger and Connie Faye.
She is survived by: her son Michael Oakes (Michelle) of Jacksonville Beach; her grandchildren, Natalie Oakes and Ryan Oakes; her siblings, Patsy Robertson (Tom), Dexter and Douglas; and her sisters-in-law, Rachel and Betty Hill of South Boston, VA.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the Powell Funeral Home (1603 Wilborn Ave, South Boston, VA 24592). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
