With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Rebecca M. Edwards (Smithfield, Virginia), born in Enfield, North Carolina, who passed away on September 27, 2022 at the age of 78. She was predeceased by: her parents, Dennis Melton and Madeline Melton; her husband Fitzhugh L Edwards Jr.; her daughter Lee; and her son-in-law Brian Howard.

She is survived by: her children, Ellen Howard of Chesapeake, Mary Hassell (Nathan) and David Edwards of Smithfield; her grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Hannah, Emma and Benjamin; and her siblings, Hodge Melton of Jefferson City and Hilda Cockrell (Bert) of Hampton.
