She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Elmer Brown and Josie Lee Whitley Brown; her husband James Melvin Powell; and her children, Sylvia Jean Powell and James Melvin Powell Jr. (Bubba).
She is survived by: her daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Smithfield and Patricia Starnes of California; her siblings, Bess B. Cochran (Steve) of Florida, Glenn Brown (Cathy) of Kentucky and Joseph Brown of Smithfield; and her sister-in-law June Powell Adams (Stan) of Fredericksburg. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
