He is survived by: his wife Helen Griffin West Barrett; his children, Beth Ouellette (Jim) of Key Largo, FL, Kurt Barrett of Gordonsville, VA, Sidney Barrett of Poquoson, VA, Luann W. Scott of Windsor, VA and William R. West (Lois) of Smithfield; his son-in-law Wendy Williams of Smithfield, VA; his grandchildren, Lindsey Gonzales (Pablo), Lee Ouellette, Elizabeth Scott-Francis (Adam), Van Williams (Sarah), Griffin Williams (Kayla), Eddie Nurney, Lauren West Babb (John) and Ryan West (Ashley); his nieces, Nancy Fortier (Dick) and Susan Webb (Charlie); and his sisters-in-law, Audrey G. Stokes and Elizabeth Curtis.
