It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Elsie Marie Gwaltney of Smithfield, Virginia, who passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Melvin H. Gwaltney; her parents, Walter Henry Cobb, Jr. and Lorena Beale Cobb; and her siblings, Doris Virginia Cobb Fowler, Robert Henry Cobb and Lawrence Burnley Cobb.
She is survived by: her sons, Gene C. Gwaltney and Gerald H. Gwaltney (Sheila); her grandchildren, Jonathan H. Gwaltney, Caroline M. Gwaltney, Ginny G. Rohlfing (Andy) and Jessica Tracoma (Dustin); and her great grandchildren, Ezra Tracoma and Parker Rohlfing. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bethany United Methodist Church (13717 Bethany Church Rd, Smithfield, VA 23430). Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the same location.
