She was predeceased by: her husband Arthur N. "Tommy" Whitesell, Jr.; her parents, James Henry Hayes, Sr. and Mary Bell Hayes (Toman); and her siblings, James Henry "Jimmy" Hayes, Jr. and Betty Berry (Hayes).

She is survived by: her children, Tommie Sue Crosby (Derik Harris) of Virginia Beach, Teresa G. Whitesell (Sharon Paxton) of Staunton, Michael S. "Mic" Whitesell (Angela) of Staunton and David A. Whitesell of Staunton; her grandchildren, Matthew Crosby (Mandi), Kimberly Smith (Richard), Molly Mauzy (Shawn) and Emma Grace Whitesell; her great grandchildren, Kahlan, Caleb, Michaela, Martha, Sean and Joseph; her great great grandchild Kamari; and her sons, Derik Harris, Matthew Crosby and Richard Smith (Sean Wells).
