She was predeceased by: her father Alvin S. Hicks. She is survived by: her mother Mary Ann Hicks; her close friend George C. Hensley, Jr.; her grandchildren, Calla Wren Slawski and Jake S. Hensley; her sisters, Gwen Rogoll and Ellen Hicks-Hamilton; and also, Megan H. Slawski and Jonathan S. Hensley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Denise's honor to the Makindu Children's Program (http://www.makindu.org) , a 5013C, helping to feed, educate and care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Makindu, Kenya, since 1998.
