He was predeceased by: his parents, Patricia Ann Sprouse and Bobby Lawrence Hicks; and his son David Lee Hicks Jr.. He is survived by: his siblings, Sandra Hicks Skeen of Crozet, Susan Hicks Harmon (Mike) of Arrington, VA, Bobby L. Hicks of California and Michael Hicks (Felicia) of Troy, VA; his children, Joann Scott-Hicks, Katelynn, Kimberly, Caleb, Logan Hicks and Dwayne Houchens; and his grandchild Laynna Hicks. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Aunts Uncles and cousins.
