He was predeceased by: his wife Connie Blevins Sword; and his parents, Sid Sword and Libby Sword. He is survived by: his daughters, Sherry Lowery (Gene) of Saltville, Robin Montgomery of Saltville and Beth Arnold (Matt) of Bristol, TN; his sisters, Peggy Borders, Patsy Davidson, Dolly Lamie and Judy Boonjaras; his grandchildren, Casey Roberts Brewster, Nicholas Montgomery, Chloe Arnold, Ryan Lowery and Aaron Lowery; and his great grandchildren, Darcy, Skai, Jonah, Elih and Lincoln. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
