He is survived by: his siblings, Freda Dinsmore (Wayne) of Saltville, Cathy Barrett (Neal) of Tannersville, Diane Allison of Saltville, Virginia and Con Gates (Virginia) of Glade Spring; and his sister-in-law Reba Gates (Virginia) of Saltville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
