He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Cardwell and Flossie Cardwell; his siblings, Everett Cardwell Jr. and Joyce Smith; and his mother-in-law Pauline Kestner.
He is survived by: his wife Mae Kestner; his son Joey Cardwell; his granddaughter Makaila Cardwell; his niece Angel Holmes; his sister Betty Mitchell; and his sisters-in-law, Sylvia Brinkly and Reba Gates. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
